My morning and night prayer time (kneeling or sitting) is usually spent with a Bible facing a wall which has a crucifix, a Pentecost picture, a picture of Mary and Joseph ....and three maps:
a map of the world, a map of China and a map of Hong Kong

I find the maps take the focus of my prayer off myself ....and think about people and situations and the Church in other places

Each day I pray for one part of the world:
Sunday - Africa
Monday - Europe & North Asia
Tuesday - South Asia, including the Middle East
Wednesday - East Asia
Thursday - South East Asia and the Pacific
Friday - South America
Saturday - Central and North America

Each day I also pray for one province in China, especially for the prisoners in that province. Many Christians use a map of China when praying for China

Maybe a large map of the world in churches would help congregations pray globally.  Not a geography lesson, but a way of caring for the whole human family, especially for groups and places going through difficult situations

Mission Sunday ....maps a help to make our prayers more missionary
