Dear Friends
Towards the end of his life, St Francis of Assisi was sad to see how wealthy his followers had become.....with buildings, properties etc
I wonder what He who was born in a stable, had nowhere to lay his head, and died on a cross....would say about this gathering to choose a successor to the fisherman Peter
Would He not be sad to see how the leadership of the Catholic Church, in its luxury and opulence and pompous vestments (Martini) has drifted far from the original vision of its Founder
Sirach 18.32 says "Do not indulge in luxurious living", and elsewhere Sirach says that luxurious living corrupts the heart
God raised up Francis of Assisi to confront the luxurious life-style of the church leaders of his day....and to build a "simple' Church
May the next pope follow the example of Francis and do away with all the trappings of luxury, of opulence, of pomposity ....and get back to the simplicity of the first Christians
Come
Holy Spirit and give the conclave cardinals a heart like Francis,
a heart like Jesus!
