Reflection 204 Previous reflections Resolution
Based
on the 1965 Vatican 2 document
Declaration on Christian Education - Conclusion
The final part of the document again encourages young people to think about being teachers
As mentioned in the
very first reflection on this document, fewer and fewer young people want to
be teachers
....this probably means the standard of teachers is going down....just as in
other professions that no one wants to join
One main reason: too much stress: I've often heard the
children of teachers say they don't want to be teachers
....because of the stress they've seen their parents under
Teaching always has been and always will be a
"vocation", a special calling....like nursing...not everyone's cup of
tea,
not everyone able to teach.
Christians have extra energy/dedication/patience/perseverance in their human tank
I would not be surprised to find that the percentage of
Christian teachers in all schools
continues to increase as life in the blackboard jungle continues to get more
difficult
....because only a Christian sense of vocation will counter the fear of
"too much stress"
To go further, if such a trend continues, the time will not be
far away
when the majority of teachers in all schools will be Christians!?
Jesus, please give more young Christians
the generosity to accept the vocation of teaching
